Planning, Planning, and Hopefully Ordering

Hey all,

Here is to another day at the shop! After what seems to be a really long time of planning I finally put the last touches on the list of materials that I will need to complete the project.  I believe I have contacted pretty much every part of the United States to try and find the right parts that I will need to get the bicycle on the road by early April.  The companies I have chosen to buy parts from are mostly located on the West Coast.  Due to the grant I can't order the parts on my own, I must place all the ordering in the hands of another individual.  So, I complied a list of parts in which I will hopefully get to meet with that individual tomorrow to finally get stuff ordered.  I will attach the list of parts to this post so that you all can see what all is needed. I can't wait to receive all the parts to get the building process started.

The Beginning Processes

Whats up all,

So over the past 6 or so months I have been researching, and researching and well researching information on how a bicycle is constructed.  Some of the information I came across deals with Leonardo da Vinci's bicycle design, Renovo Hardwood Bikes (absolutely gorgeous bicycles), and finally all wooden bicycles made by Japanese wooden shipbuilder Sueshiro Sano, turned bicycle enthusiast.  During the researching process I ran across a blog of a person across the pond in Great Britain.  He has crafted a bicycle out of marine grade plywood, the bicycle turned out great!  This blog will be one of my greatest assets during this building process.

Introduction

Hi All,

My name is Nicholas Jay, I am a current student at the University of Southern Indiana studying Fine Art with a concentration in woodworking.  Basically this blog is going to tract the progress of a grant I was recently rewarded.  The project I am working on is a Plyboo bicycle.  Plyboo, much like a tradition plywood panel, though Plyboo is made up of entirely bamboo strips.  Through this grant project I want to create a environmentally friendly bicycle that is crafted by hand with an artistic touch. So I am pretty new to this blogging thing, so bear with me.
